Hey Guys and Dolls! Who here loves video games? (Raises hand.) Me too! Love them. I'll admit I'm not the greatest player (I used to press back back B on Motal Kombat a little much). But I still love to play. When Disney came out with Epic Mickey 2 I was more than excited to play. With that said...
Disclaimer: I received a copy of Epic Mickey 2 for PS3 (PlayStation 3). All opinions of the game are my own and my brother's (I'll explain).
Since I'm not a huge gamer I asked my younger brother (here forth known as Lilliputian) to help me out with this one. Between the two of us here is what we liked:
- The story mode in Epic Mickey 2 was done in both 3D and almost a classic cartoon style. It was cute and a lot of fun to watch. It almost made me with this were a movie as well as a game.
- It's cool that you can play in two player mode. Each player doing their part to help get Mickey and Oswald through. If you are only playing with one player Oswald will follow Mickey. The player can use either's powers and play a little of each.
- The graphics in Epic Mickey 2 are really good. I did noticed that it ran a little slow during fights but it was really pretty to look at. The details are very intricate and you feel completely immersed in the world of Wasteland. For those of you who don't know Wasteland looks like a jacked-up Disneyland.
- There are hidden Mickey's through out the game. If you look closely they are every where. It's fun to spot them.
- There are mini levels and quests in Epic Mickey 2. Early in the game you are asked to find objects shaped like Mickey or Oswald and when you are done one of the character will do something. (I would tell you more but that is called "spoilers")
- If you are not a gamer there are instructions through the first few levels. They help teach you how each character moves and how to use their abilities or special tools. This helps when you are playing by yourself especially because you learn how to use Mickey and Oswald together.
- This game is so funny. There are puns and funny jokes through out. The evil doctor sings. And for those of us who are Disney fans there are references to Disneyland and old school Disney cartoons through out (I realize if you played the first Epic Mickey you know this but I'm telling you again.)
- For the hard core gamer I could see this game being defeated pretty quickly. The mechanics are simple. You use Mickey's paintbrush to either destroy or restore things in Wasteland. Or the paintbrush makes characters good or destroys them. And Oswald's remote brings mechanical objects to life. Once a gamer figured that out they could move quickly.
- Where Epic Mickey 2 will have you coming back for more is that there are hidden things and objects you can collect. And as you collect them you can trade them through out the game. You don't just want to rush through you want to see the details.
If Lilliputian liked it that means it's a lot of fun and that a gamer can really appreciate it and have a good time. If I liked it (which I do) it means that it is pretty easy and has all the Disney magic I come to expect in a good Mickey related game. It's great for all ages and I recommend playing with family and friends.
