Silly Saturday: Wreck-It-Ralph

Do these posters make anyone else want to scream like a little girl at a 1direction concert? Cause I might be doing that! I love these. The mix of the classic game characters I grew up with and the made for movie characters of the world of Wreck-It-Ralph. What could be more perfect?!

Epcot Food and Wine Preview

Hey guys and dolls! I just wanted to share some of my food and wine sampling from today. For those who don't know every fall Epcot has an annual Food and Wine festival. It is fab! You can try foods you've never heard of and drink around the world (world showcase, that is) in a whole new way.

I was able to try China, the Caribbean, Mexico, Hawaii, the Country of Cheese and Terra (Terra is the completely new, mostly vegan-the wine isn't- booth.) When I get the chance I'll list the prices but I can tell you the most expensive thing I had was the Bacardi cherry limeade from the Caribbean and it was $7.25. On average it was about $5.

My favorite so far was Hawaii although I almost wish it was spicier. Terra was really good and I'm a meat eater. The Caribbean was also a favorite. The cherry limeade was the best drink of my day and Ropa Vieja seemed like it would taste weird but it was an amazing dish. Just spicy enough to have flavor.

I don't know if I mentioned it before but I love the country of Cheese! I am a big fan and hope to be their ambassador. I unfortunately didn't get a real sense of flavors from my cheesy favorite with this tasting. I will go back and report with more.

If you want to see more pics of food and wine (and see the names of the food pictured here) go to my  (dragynally there too) or facebook page.

I Love Learning! #Giveaway

I'm not a parent (yet) but I am a big believer in early education. I think anything we can do to make learning fun for kids is great and it helps create better adults. With that in mind when I went to NY Fashion Week a few weeks ago I was geeked to have subscriptions in my gift bag. I thought how cool it would be to give these to my guys and dolls so they can share them with their kids. And with that exciting notion comes the disclaimer...

The Instagram Challenge!

I love Instagram... Not like. LOVE! I am currently at 951 pics... Not bad. And I am hoping to make it to 1000 over the next weekend.

What's so great about this weekend? Well It's Epcot's 30th birthday, my first 5K, a Villain's part, my first Mickey's Not SO Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP), and so much more! I think that is more than enough to take pictures of, don't you?

With that in mind I am hoping you will help me out. If you could leave comments of picture challenges that I can try to accomplish and share with you. They can be anything (within PG rated reason). Just keep in mind that I'm at Walt Disney World so challenges like "snow" probably won't work. But challenges like "a park icon" or "Beast's Castle" will be fun.

Let's have fun and see what happens!

Blogging Leftovers

This is the second week in a row I posted the leftovers on a Monday... Yay to being sick. ::Sniffle:: We had a lot of fun this week going to the Disney on the Road event hosted by the Social Media Moms and an advanced screening of Frankenweenie. So all in all a good week.

This up coming week will be interesting. Starting Wednesday I will be on my Disney trip for about 7 days. I'm going to attempt to live blog a few things while I am away. But as you know you can follow @DragynAlly on twitter to see my latest goings on. I will be trying out the Food and Wine Festival, walking my first 5k, going to a special villains party AND going to my first Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. It'll be a lot of fun.

And now with that out of the way...

On Monday was all about the D23 Fanniversary.
Tuesday we obsessed about Frankenweenie and played with science.
Wednesday was wordless.
Thursday I joined with other bloggers for a baby shower giveaway.
Friday PrintRunner sponsored a giveaway AND I reviewed Frankenweenie.
And Saturday was silly.

Around the InterWebs

Hey guys and dolls! Every now and then I read great posts by other bloggers and think about how much you would love them. So I have decided that once a week I should share new sites and posts with you.
  1. My friend at Walt Disney World: It's Not Just for Kids talks about Sephora's new Cinderella collection. It sounds fab!
  2. Magical Mouse Schoolhouse is helping Give Kids the World with a fundraiser.  I'm going to help any way I can.
  3. Erica Says tells us about how to add a copyright watermark to our pics. Which is something I have often wondered how to do.
  4. And Mommy Moment shares an adorable Monkey Cake with us.
That's all for this week. If you have a post that you want share or read something AWESOME over the week and think it deserves a shout out let me know!

$75 Gift Card Winner

Congratulations Christina Y. (@christinaSY123)!!! Please email ASAP to claim your prize. If you do not claim your prize in a week a new winner will be drawn.

It's Alive! Frankenweenie Review

Sorry I'm a bit late on this review (I could've posted it at 8pm yesterday.) But it all good. This review will still be up way before the movie comes out, so score one for the Dragyn!

And with that in mind... Spoiler Alert: I will do my best to keep this review as spoiler free as possible. However I have learned the hard way that one man's common knowledge is another man's spoiler. "What do you mean Frankenweenie is entirely in black and white?!"

I thought Frankenweenie was so cute! I loved it. It was pretty much what I expected; The touching story of a boy and his dog with some creepy elements thrown in.   You guys and dolls know how I like my lists. So I think I will once again do this review in list form.

  1. Victor and his family might be the only normal people in this town. Which isn't saying much considering Victor brought his dog Spark back from the dead. The relationship between Victor and Sparky makes this film. It is the emotional anchor we all rely on. Cause trust me, besides the two of them everyone else is very weird... One character is called Weird Girl and that is her only name. I think their relationship is what made the plot. Because a lot of weird things happen during the film but I only cared about Victor and Sparky.
  2. This movie is really funny. I especially laughed anytime Edward E. Gore was on the screen. He was cute for a manipulative hunchback. The other kids in Victor's world are based on horror movie icons. His next door neighbor's name is Else Van Helsing. Tell me that's not awesome! Also Time Burton's opinion of politicians isn't well hidden. Elsa's uncle Mr. Burgemeister is the mayor and is so focused on the town festival he could care less about anything or anyone else. I guess what I am saying is the characters are a lot of fun.
  3. The entire movie is in black and white. I found this very mesmerizing at points. Like I was in a trance. I will say for being black and white the tones of grey were very rich. Frankenweenie still had depth and texture even though it was grey. They explained in a recent featurette that some of the production had to be made in color just so it would show up properly in black and white.
  4. I love stop motion animation! This film was made with figurines that were about a foot tall. This style creates a creep look that Tim Burton is known for. It also creates more depth than regular animation or even computer animation. The camera can travel through the world of the figures the way it travels through our world. This means the 3D is actually very good.
  5. I'm not a huge 3D fan. I LOVED this 3D. As I said in number 5 it's thanks to the way the camera moves that you feel like you are in the world of Frankenweenie with the characters.
  6. Unlike a lot of more recent Tim Burton plots, Frankenweenie wasn't convoluted. It was very straight forward and dare I say simple. Victor brings his dog back to life. Other kids want to bring their pets back to life. Chaos ensues. Simple. Which was refreshing and easy to enjoy.
  7. Frankenweenie very dark and scary. Well darker and scarier than your average children's film. On a scale of 1 to slasher horror pic it's about a solid 4. Even I jumped at a few points and I'm an adult. If your kid can handle Nightmare Before Christmas they'll be fine. But if there parts of Brave that scare them you might want to rethink this. Also the movie deals very heavily with death and loss. So it might be a good opportunity to talk to your kids about these things. One person asked if this was really a film for kids or a film for adults disguised as a film for kids. It is a film for kids that adults can enjoy. It is just very dark. If we could rate films PG-10 I would give this film that rating.
  8. Victor is very obviously based on Tim Burton himself. He is a young boy who like to make films by himself and hang out with his dog instead of people. Yep sounds familiar. This is probably why this project was so near and dear to Tim Burton's heart. You can feel the love of this project throughout watching it. It was about love. You'll see that a loft of the best moments of the film are about love.
  9.  I have no clue why the film is called Frankenweenie except that it was inspired by Tim Burton's short of the same name and he liked the title. Honestly I don't think the term Frankenweenie was ever used in the film. But it's still really cute.
If you have questions about Frankenweenie and would like to know more leave me a comment or question. I'll answer them. It's worth it to go see this film. You will have a great time and if you're like me it'll touch your heart even through the darkness.

Obsession: Frankenweenie

I may have an unhealthy obsession with the new Frankweenie movie hitting theaters October 5th. I already love Tim Burton. I totally understand the attachment of a kid and his dog (I've had a few best fuzzy friends). And I have always had a love of the macabre. This movie combines the simple truth of a kids love of his pet with the Frankenstein story. It is light hearted and dark and creepy all at the same time. And listen to me reviewing it before I've seen it! Ignore me. Just watch the featurette below and tell me what you think.

Highlights Winner

Congratulations @coupon_gator! You are the winner of a free year of Highlights magazine. Please email me ASAP.

D23 Fanniversary

Honesty time. I have a D23 membership. It was bought as a gift. I renewed it not because I love D23 but because I am going to the 2013 Expo no matter what! But since I had the membership I decided to go to the Fanniversary last Friday (September 14). It was the first event I've seen a D23 event in Philly. If any of you know of a Philly event before this let me know! So I bought a ticket for me and my mom and we went.

It was cute. I think what I enjoyed most was being with my "tribe". It's just so cool to have that many Disney fans in one room. Everyone was wearing their Disney gear (I rocked my Disney Dooney.) and most of us were staring at our cellphones until we were ordered to turn them off.

The Fanniversary highlighted everything from Snow White to Lilo and Stitch and everything in between. Ready to feel old? DuckTales is 25!!! But then their were events that made me feel young. Like Epcot is turning 30 this year. And Goofy is 80!  (I always had a thing for older dudes ;-) They talked about Silly Symphonies like the Skeleton Dance and Mickey Shorts like Clock Cleaners. It was amazing how many Disney things were celebrating many years of entertaining us.

All in all it was worth the money and to have my mom understand what I love. I just hope D23 does more events in this area. There are obviously fans here!

Blogging Leftover Monday?! 9/16

Yes... Our week in review is a day late. But in my defense my computer was raging against the human and I finally got it to work. It was a crazy week! Monday I went to a special Fashion Week event. And Friday I went to the Disney D23 Fanniversary.

This week is going to be crazy too. So far the plan is to write that Corvette review I've been procrastinating on. I want to talk more about Fashion Week and write about the D23 Fanniversary.

I'm going to the Disney on the Road event in Long Island Wednesday followed by a book release party the same day! You can follow all of my many misadventures @DragynAlly. Feel free to tweet me. :-)

Now the week in review!

Monday was the Highlight of the week.
Tuesday we talked about a Frankenweenie game night and Halloween plans.
Wednesday was Fashionably wordless.
Thursday... There was nothing.
Friday was a three for all with Nemo, Wreck-It-Ralph, and Lincoln.
Saturday we announced a Winner and got Silly.

That's about it. Make sure you keep checking out the Giveaway label. You never know what's going on there. ;-)

Nemo Winner

Congratulations Kimberly S. (@mangeKim)!!! You are the winner of Finding Nemo 3D glasses. Please email ASAP to claim your prize. If you do not claim your prize within a week a new winner will be drawn.

Lincoln Looks Awesome!

Yep. It truly looks awesome. I'm not really into historical bio-pics as a general rule. But rules are meant to be broken!

This film is about the last days of Lincoln's life and how he handles the challenges of a divided nation and the cruelties of slavery...

But don't listen to me! Check out the preview and let me know what you think.
