Day 1

Technically today is day 1 in the 6 week long summer program that is my grad school. We have orientation in the morning. I'm not looking forward to it. I don't know if I mentioned it before but my prof (my friend) died last October and he was the head of the program. I fear that part of the discussion at the orientation will be about the group loss and what we do from there. It's sort of appropriate that yesterday was father's day. My prof (my friend) was like another father to me. Losing him hit me pretty hard. I tend to write a lot of these personal posts with tears in my eyes. Sometimes I just have to tell someone. I choose my guys and dolls.

I am trying very hard to focus on the hope of a new year and less on loss. My friend would want all of us to keep moving forward.

  1. I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Don't worry, though - I'm sure your orientation will be more forward-looking, and you have so much to be excited about in the future! Good luck!

At my grad school orientation, a group of us walked to lunch together off-campus to get to know each other a little. By the time we were done eating, it was POURING down rain. We bummed some garbage bags from the waitstaff and RAN the whole way across campus. We were wet, we were late, but by then we were friends! :-) Here's hoping you have a similar memorable experience today (though perhaps not such a wet one...)!

  2. So sorry to hear of your loss. Sending {{HUGS}} It's good to look back and remember while you're moving forward.
