Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday to me and a Very Merry Un-Birthday to all of you! While you are reading this I am in a stuffy airport trying to get on the plane to WDW.

Ok so it's off by a year... Still valid! ;-)

To celebrate my birthday I decided to list some ways to celebrate a birthday at WDW. Or in this case the ways I intend to celebrate my birthday. Ready?

  1. Get a birthday button- This is key. You'd be surprised how much people wishing you a happy birthday can make your day. Also who knows what Disney magic can happen.
  2. Drink around the world- Ok this one is fun if you drink alcohol or not... Why? Because you walk around Epcot's World showcase and sample things from all the countries. If you drink yes have a mixed drink or a beer. Don't drink I say invent a "virgin" version of the game! (Let me know how it turns out!)
  3. Watch the fireworks at MK- Honestly you should do this every trip but one your birthday it'll seem like they are dedicated to you.
  4. Eat at your favorite restaurant- Always fun!
  5. Eat at a restaurant you've always wanted to try- What better day than your birthday to go out on a limb and try something new? New year, new food!
  6. Make sure you tell every ADR and Disney reservations that it's your birthday- Like the birthday pin this will ensure that you will get the happy birthday surprises that you deserve on you special day!
  7. Get a photopass and take as many pics as possible!  It's a great way to get memories and I figure if you can get 100 or more pics the $99 price is worth it! (Note: split a photopass CD with friends and watch the savings really pile up!)
  8. Get pictures with your favorite characters- and by "characters" I also mean "friends"!
  9.  Dress up like a princess- This one is a little tough considering adults can't wear costumes but I have a few ideas that will make you feel like a princess anyway.
In any case I think just spending my birthday at Disney World will be awesome. Even if I don't do anything on the list. One year down. Here's hoping there are many more!

Happy Mothers' Day from The Lair!

I avoid my temptation to write about the absence of mothers in Disney mythology and save that for another date and time... ;-) Today I will just list my top 5 favorite Disney moms and why I love them.

      5. Kanga (Roo's mom)- She was just a lot of fun. Hanging out in the Hundred Acre Woods but when she needed to be she was mom to anyone who needed one.

      4. Mrs. Jumbo (Dumbo's mom)- She tried to protect her son from the cruel harsh world. And even when they were separated she rocks him to the sweetest lullaby in Disney history!

      3. Sarabi (Simba's mom)- Sarabi rocked. She not only had to handle the death of her husband but her son (remember she thought Simba was dead too). On top of that she had to keep her pride together and still had to put up with Scar. She was a tough cookie!

      2. Bambi's mom- She took a bullet for her son... That's all I have to say.

      1. Coral (Nemo's mom)- Even though she was scared she tried to save her eggs and lost her life in the process. And without her sacrifice there would be no Nemo to find!

        Going to Disney....AGAIN?!

Yes ladies and gents. I am going on ANOTHER Disney trip. For the first time in my life I am taking more than one trip every decade! Yes the time between my 2nd and 3rd trip to Disney World was about 7-8 years. But the time between my 3rd and 4th trip was only 5 months and between my 4th trip and this one were only 2 months... I think I may be close to Disney certifiable!

        Spaceship Earth from Italy

I am well aware of how lucky I am to be able to go to Disney as much as I have been. I've heard stories of people who have had over a decade between trips. Some almost 20 years. But I also know there are people who are adults who have spent their entire lives without a trip to Walt Disney World. My best friend went for her first time this last September and we are about the same age. Frankly I think people like my best friend have every right to look crazies like me in the eye and say "you're going to Disney...AGAIN?!" Because let's be honest not everyone gets to go.

I keep trying to justify going as much as I do. In fact I used to be one of the people who thought that anyone who went to Disney more than once every few years was crazy and couldn't really appreciate it. But then I started making friends with frequent Disney flyers.

People who go a lot go to events or for short weekends. It's rare that you see people going all out on every trip they take. So they save up there pennies, stay in a value resort, and eat off the snack menu. Well not in every case but sometimes that's how it works.

My excuse now that I write this blog and for other sites is that this is research. Don't get me wrong this research is as fun as being a food critic! But I still consider it "work". I want to make sure I have something to talk about and share with all of you. Who knows I may be your link between your world and the "World". I want to make sure I write about things that interest you and help you.

I am also fortunate enough to make Disney friends. I stay with them or share a room with them and my costs are cut significantly.  I have also figured out that I don't need souvenirs from every trip. Or if I do get souvenirs I only get things I cannot live without. Another thing I learned is how it pick my restaurants according to my budget. Basically I don't have to eat at Citricos for every meal.

So with my excuse and money saving ideas in hand May 9 I will be leaving on a jet plane (couldn't help myself) to go back to the place I love so much. I hope to try out more restaurants and share them with you and tell you about the events that I am lucky enough to go to. Maybe I'll luck out and come home with an interview or 2.

        Blogging on Vacation

I am throwing this one out to all of the Disney and travel bloggers out there. But hey you know me any and all opinions are welcomed and appreciated!

Do you blog on vacation? I mean especially if you are a travel blogger does it help to blog while on location? My goal for this trip was to get a little bit ahead (yeah right!) but also make this a "working" vacation and bring my laptop to get some writing out of the way. Since I am going to events like Destination D and the reopening of Star Tours I feel I have a journalistic responsibility to keep my readers up to date. Then again this is me we are talking about and I think people read me for the opinions...

In any case what do you think? Would you write and vacation at the same time? Are reflective pieces post trip just as good?
